In Critical Sections, the user draws with drawings—calling to the screen a collection of observations on domesticity in Los Angeles by triggering mashups of architectural renderings for eight prototype homes with images from eight films set in, or explicitly about the city.

The user’s line-drawing gestures are transmuted into collages of architectural drawings and frame grabs from Hollywood films.

Compositions are generated from both bitmapped images and vector drawings, and as such can be printed at high resolution.

Image 3 from Critical Sections

Each of the user’s compositions is automatically annotated with keywords that illuminate the connections between two strains of visual material in the piece.
