Recentering is an ambient video series that recomposes video games by focusing on the world instead of the player, traversing pulp sci-fi land- and star-scapes, a virtual Mexican countryside, a simulated Owens River Valley in a simulated California, and an extraterrestrial environment rendered in the style of Moebius. Interference in the signifying systems of these interfaces and worlds makes it easier to question their design. What do and don’t we want from popular virtual environments? What work are they doing for us?
